For the image the l'Origin makes in 1h, it takes 4h 58m here.
This equivalence says nothing but speed. It says nothing about resolution, about the field, or about optical quality. f/2,2 on 152 mm and f/4,9 on 50 mm do not photograph the same objects. The calculation takes nothing but the published focal ratios, with sensor, sky and target held identical.
Rapport d'ouverture : the focal length divided by the diameter, written f/, and the smaller that number, the faster the image forms.

Where it excels
What it does well
Fine detail and the mosaic. 2 µm photosites, detail resolution quoted at 1.60 arcseconds per pixel, and 50 Mpx out of the mosaic.
Strong points
- 12.5 Mpx on a square sensor: the highest resolution of the devices compared here.
- Detail resolution quoted at 1.60 arcseconds per pixel, against 2.39 on the Vespera 3.
- 256 GB of raw storage, of which 225 are available, against 128 GB raw on the Vespera 3.
- Five year warranty.
- Optical baffling and a Petzval inspired design, both new in this generation.
- Carbon tripod, rigid carrying case and optical cap for dark frames, listed by the manufacturer on the accessories supplied line.
- Eleven hours of battery and a dew heater fitted as standard.
Weak points
- About €2,990 for 50 mm of aperture: the most expensive in the panel after the Origin.
- The native field is the narrowest in the Vespera range: 1.6° by 1.6°, against 2.5 by 1.4 on the Vespera 3.
- Small 2 µm photosites: Vaonis itself quotes the Vespera 3 as the faster of the two.
- €500 more than the Vespera 3 for the same optics, the same weight and the same battery life.
- The sensor is that of the previous generation: same IMX676, same resolution, same field, same mosaic.
- No filter in the box: the manufacturer itself writes “none” on the built-in filter line.
- Alt-azimuth mount only: no equatorial mode.
In practice

-
01
The focal ratio printed here is the one Vaonis publishes, f/4.9. The calculation on the published 50 mm and 245 mm lands on it.
-
02
What the 2 changes on the previous generation, line by line in the manufacturer's table: focal length from 250 to 245 mm, ratio from f/5 to f/4.9, optical baffling added and a Petzval inspired design, storage from 225 GB to 256 GB raw of which 225 available, adjustable tripod replaced by a tall carbon tripod, warranty from two to five years.
-
03
What the 2 does not change: the IMX676 sensor, the resolution, the native field, the mosaic, the weight, the battery life and the limiting magnitude. The gap between the two generations is thinner than the one between the Pro 2 and the Vespera 3.

The address of the manufacturer's page is written with no hyphen before the 2: /products/vespera-pro2. The address with a hyphen answers 404.

The light pollution filter, at €229, and the rucksack were included with payment when recorded on 30/09/2026. That is an offer, not the contents of the box.

The catalogue images made with this device all carry the Dual Band filter: their engraved caption reads “filtre Dual”. It is an option that Vaonis sells separately, not a built-in filter.

What it really produces
Here is what this device gave in my hands, over 62h 37m of exposure. No manufacturer image, no stock image. Each thumbnail keeps the aspect ratio of its sensor.
