NGC 6287
A globular cluster in Ophiuchus, discovered by William Herschel in 1784.
Le Cœur et l'Âme · Photograph by the author · 3h 47m of exposure, DwarfLab DWARF 3
It is about 30,300 light-years from us, and 6,850 from the centre of the Milky Way. Its stars contain about a hundred times less iron than the Sun, which would make it an old cluster, about 13.6 billion years old. In the photo, it is a small grainy ball at the centre, whose stars already separate, in a moderately populated field.
