NGC 6939
An old open cluster in Cepheus, found by William Herschel in 1798.
Le Cœur et l'Âme · Photograph by the author · 3h 47m of exposure, DwarfLab DWARF 3
It is about 5,610 light-years away, measures 10 arcminutes, and a 2023 study gives it 1.58 billion years. In the photo, its faint stars huddle into a small knot a little left of centre. The galaxy NGC 6946, its neighbour in the sky, stays outside the frame.
