Cluster · Cassiopeia
M52
A rich open cluster in Cassiopeia, discovered by Charles Messier in 1774.
Le Cœur et l'Âme · Photograph by the author · 3h 47m of exposure, DwarfLab DWARF 3
The parallaxes of 798 of its stars place it about 5,400 light-years away; its apparent size ranges from 13 to 16 arcminutes depending on the source. In the photo, it forms a tight knot a little left of centre, bordered on the left by a brighter orange star. The Bubble Nebula is very close in the sky, but outside the frame.
