NGC 672 is about 23.9 million light-years away and IC 1727 about 22.4 million, close enough to each other to be perhaps interacting. Together with NGC 784, they belong to the NGC 672 group. IC 1727 has a low surface brightness, and it shows: next to the elongated disc of NGC 672, with its brighter centre, it is only a pale streak.
