IC 1029, about 120 million light-years away, gives its name to the group of galaxies that NGC 5673, a barred spiral, also belongs to. Guillaume Bigourdan discovered the first in 1887, a century after William Herschel had found the second, in 1787. In the photo, IC 1029 shows a bright bulge in the middle of its spindle, whereas NGC 5673, thinner and paler, shows none.
