NGC 6664
A very young open cluster in Scutum, discovered by William Herschel in 1784.
Le Cœur et l'Âme · Photograph by the author · 3h 47m of exposure, DwarfLab DWARF 3
Measurements by the Gaia satellite place it about 6,340 light-years away, and it covers 12 arcminutes, a little over a third of the height of the field. In the photo, its brightest stars scatter across the centre without forming a tight core. The dazzling star with cross-shaped spikes, at bottom right, is Alpha Scuti, the brightest in that constellation, very close to the cluster in the sky.
