Le Cœur et l'Âme · Photograph by the author · 3h 47m of exposure, DwarfLab DWARF 3
Giovanni Battista Hodierna had spotted it before 1654, more than a century before Charles Messier entered it in his catalogue, in 1764. It covers 10 arcminutes. In the photo, its brightest stars, a bluish white, gather at the centre, against a background of fainter, more orange stars.
